Why do we age?

Why do we age? And what happens? There are three basic mechanisms:
1) Damage in our genetic material, the DNA, accumulates.
2) The protective caps on the chromosomes become shorter with each cell division. The so-called telomeres lose their protective function.
3) Mitochondria, the powerhouse of cells, lose their efficiency and can no longer provide enough energy.
