Mitochondria A cell Organelle/Dr. Alka Inamdr

Mitochondria are present in all eukaryotic cells. Mitochondria mito = thread; chondrion = granule) are granular or filamentous organelles present in the cytoplasm of both plant and animal cells. In eukaryotic cells, they are mainly in the form of cylindrical filamentous membrane – bound structures, less than lum in diameter. These cell organelles exhibit special structural organization, lipo-protein composition and presence of large number of enzymes and co-enzymes that interact to produce energy transformations in a living cell.
