Cold Thermogenesis

Glimpses from our webinar on Adipose Tissue | Harshita Kaul | Cologne Grad School of Ageing | ROW

Last Sunday we had an amazing researcher 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀. 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝘂𝗹 from the 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙣𝙚 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙙 𝙎𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝, 𝙂𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙮 who talked about how mitochondria plays an essential role in fat cells and how mild mitochondrial dysfunction regulates lipid metabolism and thermogenesis in the body.

Harshita started off the session by familiarising the audience to the different kinds of fat tissues prevalent in our body and how their proportions play in major role in inducing obesity and ageing related illnesses. Using interactive methods she explained how this proportion can be altered using standard as well as upcoming strategies such as cold therapy. She introduced the counter-intuitive process of hormesis and used it to lead into her own research work where she is introducing mitochondrial dysfunction in adipose cells to find its response and study the physiology of the organism in greater detail.

In case you missed it live, you can watch the highlights here.
