Dr ANDREW HUBERMAN on COLD FOR FAT LOSS VERSUS COLD FOR STRESS MITIGATION

Cold environments are stressful. They cause release of adrenaline in the brain and body. They also stimulate metabolism and fat loss by activation of thermogenenic mitochondrial action. **Whether cold exposure does one or the other depends on whether or not you allow or resist shivering.**

That is because cold induced shiver triggers the release of the molecule succinate. That in turn, activates brown fat (the “good” kind of fat), thermogenesis and white/pink fat loss. (Ref: nature.com/articles/s41586-018-0353-2?proof=t

Alas, just shaking or shivering doesn’t do the trick to activate brown fat thermogenesis. It has to be in actual response to cold.

  1. Hi. This vid is so insightful! I've been trying to research for a YouTube vid similar to yours that educates the ideas in this YouTube video. 🙌 👏 The part at 1:04 is really knowledgable. Your vid totally is like the channel from this awesome Dr Ethan. His tips are totally insightful and I actually learned a lot for my diet. He is the most knowledgable med student in Nottingham and he teaches medical school!

You should really check his YouTube out and give the Dr a like! 👉 #DoctorEthan
