Some authorities promote vegetable oils as a “health food” but others see them as a clear danger to our health. Observational studies suggest they are beneficial to our health, but mechanistic studies suggest they can cause significant harm. How do we make sense of the disparate views? Our panel of experts weighs in and helps us put things in perspective.

It's amazing like everybody quoting scientifical literature but can come up with completely opposite results or opinions…..
In this case I just try to use common sense…. And everybody who will do some research on what actually"vegetable oils"are and how they're made… Should do the same….
God bless you This video helps tremendously beyond expectations Really appreciate

Dr. Weiss:
He’s got a point about the seed oil conversation being far down the list for most people (especially if they’re starting out on a new eating plan). However, he would be amazed at how much soybean oil finds its way into common foods (including salad dressings). The definition of a junk might as well be Flour + Sugar + Soybean Oil.
Pity you didn’t have Chris Knobe and Paul Saladino on. I believe they are very opposed to seed oils
What about other plant oils such as walnut oil, pumpkin seed oil, linseed oil etc. I used to put these on my salad, cold pressed usually. But i have been avoiding them in the last years since hearing all the scares about seed oils. After watching the discussions here I assume a bit of pumpkin seed oil on my salad is not going to kill me.
I noticed there was no mention of taking these seed oils and hydrogenating them. I think it was pretty strongly concluded that hydrogenated oils are bad for all of us.

Just make sure you're not trying to cook with and use bottled "vegetable oil" from the grocery store. If so read the ingredients before you do. There's only one and it's Soy beans.
I perceive the key driver for consuming vegetable oils to be commercial interests. However, the oils are promoted as “healthy” as that is the message the public will currently buy into. Trials and research funded by commercial interests will clearly seek to promote them in that way. That they are a money-saving option for people seals the deal. Persuasive messaging is the lifeblood of commercial interests.
I have great respect for Ben Bikman and the work he does.
Vegi oils are too refined. If you know how it is made, you will probably not use it on a regular basis. I will try to avoid it if I can when eat out. But for the convenience eating out occasionally, I don’t worry too much. I know I already consumed at minimum.
At an airport restaurant, I wanted eggs and bacon and ended up ordering poached eggs instead of other methods since the waiter told me that they don’t have butter or olive oil.
Start listening at 57.47 minutes to-1.14.111 ,is science and humbleness when you are learning all time . Focused on linoleinic acid the topic of podcast. Time is the most precious thing ,so do not wasted please on futile pseudo sciences and clinical studies and blood markers done on sick population.Thank you.
NO. ALL OIL IS POISON
"Nutrition is a zero sum game."
What is this man talking about.
Wow… Your first two experts represent the problem of Eminence Based Science Expertise. They identify as not knowing and never having thought about it and claim to have devine authority knowledge about it. The audience gets the message that they are not Evidence Based on their expertise but clerics of a Dogma.
My friend, who eats a normal diet, gets headaches if someone fries food on vegetable oil. Just from being in the kitchen for a few minutes.
You need to interview Tucker Goodrich on this topic.
At 28:20moment I'm patiently waitin' for my counter advocates.
Since I removed vegetable oils 15 years ago (Extra Virgin Olive Oil is an exception in the Mediterranean) my life changed 360, for the better.
Btw. Where is Dr. Cate Shanahan, Tucker Goodrich, anyone?
I do NOT have seed oils in the house!
The first speaker put me off this talk completely and to be honest has put me off Diet Doctor also. Having someone on who just doesn't care has made me lose trust. Thank heavens for Ben and Amber.
Amber sounds like she just graduated high school
Waste of time listening to this. Everyone has a neutral position. Every input and conclusion vague…confusing. No real answers.
Full of crap. Vegetable oils are horrible. Like carbs and sugar.
Try and find a food at the grocery store that doesn't have industrial oil in it.
I can't even believe that his first guest said that he doesn't see people chugging omega six oils! So he doesn't think that they are a problem! OMG
The language that the second female guest uses shows that she does not yet understand how the body metabolizes fats on a low carbohydrate diet.
She needs to update her reading choices
Good to have followed everything with Heather … she's the canary in the coal mine of nutrition information.
I do not agree with all what mr. Weiss says. Paul Saladino crushed him in LA knowledge 6-0.
But to his credit, he is like my brother. Both do clinical work with seriouly sick patients who will not match with us, the bio optimizing health-nazis (my brothers call sign for me), and both do not play with anything doing with insulins action at the mitochondrion membranes.
I am an semiconductor physisist and a researcher. What Peter Dobromylsky theorises makes a lot of sense to me. Will there ever be a drug based on it? HELL NO! It would be the worst business ever and Weiss would be out of a job. Should they try to do this on their own? Maybe, but I am sure my brother and he would be silly to recommend it to any patient. Those people, as sad as it is, are gonners for sure. We should have different agendas for different people. Sick vs. those who are willing to do something about it themselves. I did. I became Un-Ill by lowering, not cholesterol but TG and avoiding LinoleicAcid to ancestral levels under 4% of daily energy intake. Fanatically.
From the comments here Brett, sounds like what’s missing is the “use in practice” of these oxidized toxins …. AND we know even the unheated used cold off the shelf V oils are damaged!!!!!! Why would any intelligent person put this poison in their body?
In the 1st minute of Dr. Weiss' talking (7:10 – 8:21), he basically said nothing, by 9:31 we're promised "I'm going to say it directly" … at 10:45 we get from him "I'm sorta talking out of both sides of my mouth" … So I recommend you just skip the first 15 minutes
Nicola, your subjects are all over 4% omega6 LA so you will not see difference as a clinician. You need to see what this case is for naturally exposed people, indigious tribes or biohackers specifically.
Raphael, I agree, so I am heavily biased. I personaly am testingh these ROS Coupling switch mechanisms and would not go eat out more than 4 times / year. I have calculated that will keep me below 2% of INTENTIONAL LA exposure. Still working to avoid unintentional (non grassfed and non ruminant red meat) LA intake. And I miss spelled DobromylskyJ 😉
Ben, Yes Peter and Paul Saladino really try to explain the difference of cell level insulin resistance and the general organ level insulin resitance. Second Are We Sick or not. Two different issues. Very easy to get it twisted ie wrong. LA makes an Un-healthy cell especially in the case of hypertrophic fat cells of an insulin resistant person (person is a macroscopic entity) at the mitochonrial level insulin sensitive!!! This would not be generally a good thing since FFAcids in blood stream and the lipid oxidation end products 9_,13_HODE and 4HNE.
This is so twisted if we do not understand this difference of sick insulin resistance what is the case when a clinician sees patients in contrast to a scientist who works on a cell level. No one will understand the nomenclature. We need different words here. Sick vs. Healthy mechanisms, sensitive at (where ???) resistant (where ???)
Amber, highly appreciated of your long lasting citizen scientism. The Fadh2/Nadh ratio of fatty acids (optimal close to 0.5) is a very compelling hypothesis.
Dr weiss is foolish , people in the African American community are dying left and right from poor health and eating out , fried & processe food
Mad respect for this vid. I really like hearing all sides.
It is interesting that even the doctors that say there's nothing wrong with seed oils still choose not to eat them themselves. And whether anyone says they're good or bad, when you look at the chemicals needed to extract and process these oils, do we really want those in our body. I saw a couple suggestions for a part 2. Include Kate Shanahan? Great content! Thanks and blessings!
I have heard how these oils are created are causing the oil to turn to poison because of the process and heat. I believe these doctors are being PAID by these oil manufacturers to give a good report. I believe the original studies. Coming now to change minds is trying to save face.😱😱😱
Dr, Weiss is a perfect example of the failed, highly profitable sick care system. As a cardiologist he is paid well for his services and if dietary changes result in a decrease in CVD, his source of income (and the hospital system he works with/for) dries up.
Could someone, please, point me to the epidemiologic studies mentioned by Nicola Guess?
I would like to read these myself and make my own opinion..
blimey , maybe one day we will know what humans are meant to be eating to be healthy, its
all so confusing.
Great format…. One topic, discussed by all these different doctors/researchers. Thank you, very much!
I don't care what these experts say that find nothing wrong with completely denatured, highly processed seed and vegetable oils. I consider them chemical products, not food, and so I don't eat them. No research needed.
Why all this talk of oils, a product we DON'T NEED! They are all processed, whether they're cold pressed or not. I just don't use any oils, and haven't for several years. When I roast my meat, I pour off the rendered fat/dripping and that's all I cook with. 100% pure and natural. Simple.
Are they teal. Are they natural?
Weiss has no clue about vegetable oils. There are more informed doctors that can tell you how bad vegetable oils are for your health.
