Numerous things can contribute to cancer. Studies show diet, exercise, thoughts, feelings, and environmental toxins all influence the initiation, growth, and progression of cancer.

Functional Medicine empowers patients and practitioners to achieve the highest expression of health by working collaboratively to address the root causes of disease. For example, a Functional Medicine practitioner might say that yes, we still need radiation and other conventional approaches, but what else can we do?

In this episode, my guests and I discuss the Functional Medicine approach to cancer. We can also alter how our genes are expressed by changing the inputs that control that expression: Diet, nutrients, phytonutrients, toxins, stress, and other sources of inflammation.

Drew Ramsey is a psychiatrist, author, farmer, and founder of the Brain Food Clinic in New York City, offering treatment and consultation for depression, anxiety and emotional wellness concerns. He is the author of three books, most recently the award-winning cookbook Eat Complete: The 21 Nutrients that Fuel Brain Power, Boost Weight Loss and Transform Your Health. He lives with his wife and two children in New York City and on their 127-acre organic farm in rural Indiana.

Dr. Todd LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, specializing in Integrative Functional Medicine, and is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner. He has been practicing Functional Medicine for over 15 years focusing on Optimal Aging, Bio-Detoxification, Gastrointestinal Health, Systemic Inflammation, Autoimmune disorders and the Neurobiology of mood and cognitive disorders.

Peter Attia is the founder of Attia Medical, PC, a medical practice with offices in San Diego and New York City, focusing on the applied science of longevity. His approach focuses on increasing lifespan by delaying the onset of chronic disease, while simultaneously improving “healthspan,” or quality of life. To do this, his practice applies nutritional biochemistry, exercise physiology, sleep physiology, techniques to increase distress tolerance, lipidology, pharmacology, and endocrinology.

  4. Traditional psychiatry needs to wrestle with all the harms it has caused before people will have faith in it. I am in a grad program for marriage and family therapy and a critical difference between this type of training is MFT is founded on systemic and contextual thinking. The person is not the problem, the problem is a symptom of some sort of disharmony within a system or systems in a person's life. I'd like to see Dr. Ramsey collaborate with systemic therapists to upgrade psychiatry.

    Potassium Citrate
    Magnesium Malate
    Himalayan Salt plus iodine supplement
    Purified water
    According to Professor Stefanie Seneff MIT, glycine (which induces deep sleep and is 1/3 of collagen) could improve the mental & physical health of many and help cure a leaky gut or gut permeability — gut – brain nexus. About 3 grams of glycine plus L tryptophan and GABA at or near bedtime could significantly improve mental health. Many are deficient in choline and/or heathy eggs which can significantly boost brain function, sexual libido, and helps to heal a fatty liver.
    A daily liver supplement or RAW frozen liver cut the size of a small pill swallowed with some water provides many trace micronutrients including B 12.
    For optimal brain function about 4 eggs cooked sunnyside up and put in a bowl and add himalayan salt and real grass fed butter should significantly boost brain function.
    A teaspoon of unrefined virgin coconut oil also helps.
    For optimal brain function, l tyrosine plus taurine and acetly l carnitine and a krill oil supplement plus zinc + copper and a super high quality [expensive] multi B complex will all significantly boost brain function. Meditation and gratitude and daily walks all will boost brain health. Music. Sunshine. Red light therapy. Sauna. Relaxing hot warm epsom salt baths. Use a high speed percussion massager on face and head to maximize blood flow and exercise muscles and help lymph. Down dog yoga pose or put head lower than body fie a minute to improve blood flow. A Niacin flush is truly awesome!
    Once in a while a high dosage MSM organic sulfur detox will max detox. Alternatively, high dosage DIM supplement can reduce estrogen in men but may be wrong for some women.
    Reducing refined carbohydrates and refined sugar is goal 1. A ketogenic diet.
    Blueberries are awesome.
    Astaxanthin.
    Vitamin D
    Vitamin A
    Multi mineral supplement.
    Affirnations and reprogram the mind.
    Positivity. Resilience.
    Read more.
    Deep breathing exercises. Breath heavy for about 20 breaths – hold and then release..
    Oxygen — breathing – increases oxygenation.
    Green tea or chamomile tea with cinnamon.
    Avocado OR guacamole curbs all sugar cravings.

    Specifically, regarding cancer it depends on the type and root cause and the stage. Fasting sometimes medically induced — through medication to eliminate all food cravings for a few days — a strict water – with electrolytes only and water only for about 10 to 21 days may help some. 21 days is viewed at an optimal water fast.
    Afterwards an extremely strict ketogenic diet.
    Eggs and coconut oil and real grass fed butter.
    Depend on type and status for specialized individual treatment options.
    Obviously, increasing natural killer cells is the ideal. Withdrawing blood killer cells and multiplying the natural killer cells and then reinjecting them is one of the experimental therapeutic strategies under investigation.
    T cells are regulated by the thymus gland and increasing thymus gland function possibly by consuming thymus gland extract. The primary source of natural killer cells is bone marrow so increasing bone marrow with vitamin D and k2mk7 and bone marrow broth and zinc +copper and boron and magnesium and other bone optimization supplements. Beef liver.

    Others depending on individualized factors
