Mitochondria, metabolism and aortic aneurysm: Can we repair the aorta before it ruptures?



This session of Thoracic Aortic Rounds features Dr. Vaibhav Patel, PhD. Dr. Patel is an assistant professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine and a member of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Patel completed his PhD in India in 2011 and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Alberta. His research program focuses on intercellular communications in cardiovascular disease. His lab is also interested in understanding the metabolic basis of aortic aneurysm. His research is currently funded by CIHR, NSERC, and CFI. Vaibhav has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in the top-ranked journals in the field of translational cardiovascular sciences, including Nature Communications, Circulation Research, Diabetes, Hypertension, and JMCC, etc.
