How stress during ageing affects mitochondrial fitness and genome stability | Prof Rong Li

In this #webinar, Prof Rong Li, Distinguished Professor and Director of Mechanobiology Institute at NUS, shared about her work that is focused on investigating crucial dynamic changes of cellular components during the ageing process and how these changes alter the mechanical functions of cells and tissues. She also talked about the implications of chronic stress on cellular dynamics, and how this can lead to age-associated genetic abnormalities.

  1. Just a layman bio-hacker here… Those of us that take saunas of various sorts and get the benefit of protein folding quite frequently, sometimes two or three timers per week. People are also starting to use, myself included, red light LEDs and near infrared light combined. The photons enter the cell and help take out the trash so to speak and make the mitochondria more efficient in their work. This field is called Photobiomodulation. Fasting and HIIT exercises are also said to help support mitochondria. Just FYI for cross pollenating ideas. I didn't know mitochondria had their own genome!
