  2. Hey steve, I dont think lactate has anything to do with the proton build up associated with muscle fatigue and there are some really well written reviews on this subject. From what I understand lactate is beneficial as a proton buffer where it is able transport the H+ to other parts of body lowering the concentration in the area being worked out. Lactate doesnt actually cause the H+ build up, its actually ATP hydrolysis from Glycolysis running during anaerobic conditions. During aerobic conditions this waste is able to be used in the CAC and ETC resulting in no H+ build up, but during endurance exercise you reach a threshold where aerobic gets backed up and anaerobic takes over causing the lowered pH.
    I say this because its likely that lactate would be beneficial to endurance exercise. The reason it gets a bad rap is that it serves really well as a marker for how low the pH of the muscle is. But this only because the body makes more of it to deal with that low pH.
