NAD has been popping up everywhere, and for good reason. It’s a fundamental driver of our health and longevity, and we’re now learning how boosting NAD levels might offset and improve the effects of aging.
On today’s episode, I’m excited to talk to Dr. Andrew Salzman all about NAD—how it is a key component involved in mitochondrial production, and is a critical substrate for several enzymes, including sirtuins, which play key roles in healthy aging, weight management, metabolic syndrome, and metabolism.
Dr. Salzman is a physician, inventor, professor, and biomedical entrepreneur. Dr. Salzman received his medical degree from Harvard University and has spent decades in drug discovery and development, raising over $165M in NIH grants for research. In addition to 50 patents, Dr. Salzman is credited with a breakthrough discovery in cellular DNA repair, which led to the world’s first clinical application for successfully treating breast cancer caused by mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Millions of patients are benefiting from discoveries by Dr. Salzman in areas including mitochondrial health, gastrointestinal microbiota, damage caused by inflammation and oxidative stress to human cells and DNA, autoimmune disease, and cancer.

👋
This coming from a doctor who looks metabolically ill.
How do we get NAD before I die pls.
This doctor should take his own advice.
Stay young after 30? So does it mean a 35 year old human being is old?
How long after taking the nmn supplement will you feel the results?
Wonderful info… thank you !
Got the supplements on amazon.
Hello and thanks for this video. Not everybody is watching from the US (hence used to your accent) nor is an expert to the acronyms that have been repeated, dozens times, during this video. A pity. The whole topic and the two speakers are very knowledgeable.
To pass over the knowledge in a way that the average listener can grasp is the issue. In my humble opinion it would be good to take this into account for future videos. Thanks again.
Can you recommend a NAD product. There are so many. Which one is legit?
It's broadly agreed upon that NAD (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) levels diminish substantially with age.
it's also known that higher more youthful levels of NAD are consistent with improved health and longevity, none of that is in dispute.
However, what's also universally accepted, is that we don't fully understand the best way(s) to increase our NAD levels.
Obviously, supplementation is the most logical vehicle for increasing NAD levels but, which supplements, or combinations thereof will most efficiently increase levels, remains a question with an elusive answer.
Dare I say, the “how to” is unsettled science.
The following are precursors and their various iterations, as well as other supplements believed to increase NAD levels in the human body:
• NR (Nicotinamide Riboside)
• NRH
• NMN (Nicotinamide mononucleotide)
• MIB 626 (Proprietary form of NMN)
• NMNH Coenzyme 1
• Vitamin B3 Niacin/Niacinamide
• NAD
• NAD3
• NADH
• NAD+
• FISETIN.
• APIGEN.
• Liposomal delivery systems
• IV delivery
Some of the issues associated with supplementation of NAD involves Bioavailability, Storage, and Instability of many of the above substances.
Precursors are very unstable; many recommend refrigeration and protection from light while being stored.
Many of these items are unstable and subject to damage during storage and shipment, and, finding authentic products, with all the knock offs online is challenging.
The question confronting us is simply this,
which of the previously mentioned substances or combinations, makes the most sense based upon real peer reviewed science for increasing NAD levels in the human body and actually work.
Once established, which of these supplement, chemicals, or preparations can be sourced and from where reliability in terms of authenticity, storage and delivery.
As stated earlier, there is universal agreement that NAD is an important molecule within the human body and is involved in nearly all chemical processes that take place in human physiology. It’s also undeniable that NAD is associated with longevity and aging as already mentioned.
The question once again is how best to supplement, or increase NAD levels.
Considering NAD increasers or boosters and the various mechanisms for increasing NAD levels, it’s important to consider that many within the scientific community believe the ratio between NAD+ in its oxidized form and the reduced version, NADH is more important than simply increasing NAD levels.
It appears as though as one ages and later in life as NAD levels drop drastically, the problem with loss of NAD seems to affect NAD+ more so than NADH. As such, the problem with the ratio becomes more profound later in life.
The logical question then becomes, if one is going to supplement with an NAD precursor or some other substance that increases NAD levels, would it not make more sense to target increasing NADH than NAD+ particularly
in older age when NAD+ to NADH ratios seem to favor NAD+ levels?
NADH is a very common supplement and can be readily found nearly everywhere but not so with NAD or NAD+ offerings.
NAD/NAD+ supplements are purportedly more unstable and more difficult to supplement with directly not to mention NAD+ is a very large molecule and its ability to be absorbed as a supplement is dubious at best.
The issue of how to supplement, or the most efficient way to increase all forms of NAD is again a difficult subject to quantify.
NAD precursors such as NMN and NR as well as many other mechanisms for increasing NAD all have pros and cons including bioavailability as well as stability issues.
There are many good animal studies available for review but precious few actual studies involving human beings. This too contributes to the lack of good quality evidence to support many of the NAD theories being floated.
Given all that’s been said to this point, I would urge you to consider the issue of NAD+ to NADH ratio and how that bears upon supplementation, particularly for older persons, and the best way to supplement with NAD increasers considering all the alternatives and challenges discussed in this article.
Evolution theory has been shown to be wrong on multiple fronts.
Pranayama (breathing yoga) as known in Indian culture is known to do t the same right? (Hypoxia – mitochondrial biogenesis).
For proper context, we'd like to share Prof Salzman's credentials: Andrew Salzman is a physician, inventor, professor, and biomedical entrepreneur. Dr Salzman received his medical degree from Harvard University and has spent decades in drug discovery and development, and raised over $165M in NIH grants on research. In addition to 50 patents, Dr. Salzman is credited with a breakthrough discovery in cellular DNA repair, which led to the world's first clinical application for successfully treating breast cancer caused by mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, (and is an expert in NAD science and genomic pathways.)
Millions of patients are benefiting from discoveries by Dr. Salzman in areas including mitochondrial health, gastrointestinal microbiota, damage caused by inflammation and oxidative stress to human cells and DNA, autoimmune disease and cancer.
Love listening to Dr. Salzman. 🙌🙌 He is a true genius!
I thought that was Richard Dreyfuss at first😅!
Wow!! Loved this interview with Dr. Salzman!!
A key 🔑 sign is the neck! Do you still have a neck after 50! I’ve been doing Dr Sebi since the mid 90s!
Damn. Get to the point. How can the layman increase nmn? Ok, kind of, sort of, unpack the freaking answer!
Damn over an hour and no real solution. You guys are dicks! I should have known it was a scam when he said he was in Israel.
Nmn is simply too expensive
Dr. Salzman is speaking about damaged DNA. I'm thinking there are a lot of people out there with this, after the past couple years of Covid …
What NMN supplement do you recommend?
I started taking NAD and lost my energy levels so I stopped taking it, stop spreading false info
