As we age, our body’s natural antioxidant defenses slow down, driving chronic inflammation and diminishing overall health.

To combat inflammaging, scientists have been studying compounds that can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body. One such compound is astaxanthin, a powerful, naturally occurring antioxidant with profound anti-inflammatory health benefits.

Today on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I’m excited to talk to David M. Watumull all about astaxanthin and how it helps to combat some of the key hallmarks of aging—inflammaging, mitochondrial dysfunction, and cell signaling.

David M. Watumull has more than twenty years of experience in product development, commercialization, and business management related to astaxanthin—a safe and powerful, naturally-occurring anti-inflammatory—for human health. He is the co-founder and CEO of AX3 Life, a consumer longevity company formed to help people be their best selves longer. AX3 Life targets inflammaging—a core hallmark of aging—at its source with AX3 bio-pure astaxanthin. He is also the COO of Cardax, a life sciences business focused on advancing pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications of astaxanthin.

  1. Thank you, David, for sharing this crucial information and empowering us to make positive changes for a longer and healthier life! This video is a must-watch for everyone concerned about their well-being.

  2. I have the GG version of Fox03 from DNA test but seems conflicting because I have suboptimal markers for much systemic inflammation and have MTHFR C-T version where I have to take supplements. Wondering if Fox03 can override these suboptimal markers for longevity or if looking at this gene in isolation rather than comprehensively with other genes to determine longevity is the better way to go. Both parents had heart and blood pressure issues.

  3. Thank you! ❤ 😂 Love your videos Dr.. Hyman! Have followed you for years. Very into living a long healthy life! Mention mitochondria, autophagy, mitophagy, reducing inflammation, reducing oxidative stress, bio-availability, and healthy lifespan and my ears perk up! Buzzwords! Great, very thorough video about the benefits of astaxanthin. Love all the research presented.

I'm 69 years old. Not on any pharmaceuticals. Crohn's disease in remission for over 8 years WITHOUT pharmaceuticals. Mostly because of diet, including lots of Turmeric and other spices and herbs. FOOD IS MEDICINE! Most supplements are organic, food-based, some liposomal to boost bioavailability. Non-alcohol tinctures. Working on mitigating stress response as well.

Also off Thyroid med (was Armour Thyroid). Use nascent Iodine drops and Selenium and sometimes add seaweed such as kelp or dulse to food. Numbers are good, the same as when I took medication.

I eat red meat occasionally Eat mostly fish (and of course, lots of veggies!). Eat wild-caught salmon about 3x a week. So getting some astaxanthin. But I'm intrigued about the supplement because of what's been discussed here.

However, I'm not a fan, to put it mildly, of synthetic supplements. But grateful for the extensive explanation about what makes the synthetic form better. So I'll definitely look into the product!

I have one QUESTION that's related to the study on NR's effectiveness. Was the NR liposomal? And was it given with liposomal glutathione and/or liposomal Vitamin C (both of which can increase mitochondrial benefits)? Asking because I use all three in my daily "Vitamin C drink". 😂

  4. mark always brags about his “6%” body fat. Turns out it’s an unhealthy level to be at 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  5. I appreciate all the information this man posts to YouTube but why are your supplements so expensive( not all of them). The majority of us are blue collar workers, and we want to be healthy but when you charge $80 for a one month supply of multi vitamins it makes health and wellness hard to achieve. I was looking to find a multi vitamin and came upon the one Andrew Huberman as well as yourself endorse I’ve forgotten the name already. I’m trying to say this as respectfully as possible but dang. So many of us have the desire to be healthy but a lot of it comes down to a barrier of entry being money.
