Cold Thermogenesis

Cold Plunge, Cold Thermogenesis, Cryotherapy, Ice Bath. Whatever you call it, here's HOW TO DO IT!

Cold Plunge, Cold Thermogenesis, Cryotherapy, Ice Bath. So many names for the same thing. And no matter what you call it the results stay the same.

I am lucky to have the cold Colorado rivers as mother natures cold thermogenesis. If you don’t have a cold river or lake you can still get the cryotherapy benefits at home in your bath tub or simply hop into a cold shower.

Prior to entering the water you can see that I am utilizing (not perfectly) a Wim Hof breathing technique. This helps to bring your body in to a parasympathetic state and REALLY helps to withstand the cold water.

Cold thermogenesis is an effective protocol to reduce inflammation in the body, reduce joint pain and increase rate of recovery. It also stimulates the vagus nerve, which has major innervation for multiple functions and organs of the human body. Some have even said that it speeds up the fat burning process.

2-5 minutes once a week is a great starting point and then you can tailor the timing and frequency to your personal preferences. I will be the first to say that it’s not fun, but making this a part of my health regimen has been notably beneficial.
