cell biology | Lecture #12 Mitochondria | structure and functions

Video Lecture is about the mitochondria, a cell organelle which is also called the power house of the cell. Mitochondria are double enveloped organelles, having inner and outer membranes. Inner membranes creates the two chambers, one is called inter membrane space and the other one is called the mitochondrial matrix. Mitochondrial matrix contain circular DNA, granules, ribosomes, proteins, lipids and certain enzymes. The complete analogy of mitochondria is discussed in the video.

The basic structure and functions are mentioned in the video. Mitochondria performs a variety of functions, oxidation, dehydrogenation, oxidative phosphorylation and respiratory chain of the cell. During the oxidation of the carbohydrates and fats, an energy rich compound is produced in the mitochondria is called adenosine triphosphate ATP. That’s why the mitochondria is also called the powerhouse of the cell. Kindly watch the complete video to get more information about the mitochondria.
