The South African Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) Grades 10-12 life science content framework is organised according to four knowledge strands. Knowledge strands are developed progressively over the three years of FET. These knowledge strands are:
• Knowledge Strand 1: Life at the Molecular, Cellular and Tissue Level.
• Knowledge Strand 2: Life Processes in Plants and Animals.
• Knowledge Strand 3: Environmental Studies.
• Knowledge Strand 4: Diversity, Change and Continuity.
In this presentation Prof Himla Soodyall Executive Officer at the Academy of Science of South Africa, will be addressing Knowledge Strand 4, which encapsulates genetics and heredity which is a difficult topic for some learners to understand, but once they are confident with terminology and concepts enjoy and master it.
