High fat meal effect on blood & brain

High fat meal bad for blood & brain as shown in video. Blood sludge is of course part of it. Also changes shape of RBC = acanthocytes & echinocytes. Decreases oxygen delivery to tissue = increased risk neuron apoptosis (death) & increased risk cancer (Warburg effect). Part of decreased O2 delivery is b/c RBC regulation of oxygen delivery via RBC release of ATP, is impaired by RBC glycation (elevated HbA1c). Endoplasmic reticulum MAM’s (Mitochondrial Associated Membranes) deliver too much calcium to hippocampal neurons b/c insulin resistance is preventing adequate glucose entry into neurons. Hippocampal neurons of course have glut 3 glucose transporters, but they also have glut 4 transporters = INSULIN dependent transporters (thus the glut4’s can’t take up adequate amount of glucose b/c of the insulin resistance). This causes increased risk of neuronal apoptosis (programmed cell death that occurs when a neuron cannot meet it’s energy needs).
