Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell where the main source of body energy, called ATP is generated via oxidative phosphorylation. ATP is a molecule that stores and transfers energy in cells, and it is consumed by the cells to drive many processes, such as muscle and heart contraction. In the brain, nerve cells use this molecule as a signaling molecule to other active neurons or other cells in the brain. Mitochondria is also involved in processes such as apoptosis, autophagy, reactive oxygen species production, and lipid metabolism. When there are endogenous and exogenous stressors, the cells launch mitochondrial biogenesis, in which new mitochondria are synthesized to maintain energy production and prevention of reactive oxygen species. As humans age, mitochondrial biogenesis and function decline, which leads to mitochondrial DNA depletion, which has been associated with age-related diseases, heart disease, and impaired neurological function. But PQQ or pyrroloquinoline quinone can help you prevent these effects of aging. P-Q-Q mitochondrial function and stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis. PQQ is a pro-oxidant and antioxidant compound present in all plant foods analyzed to date. Parsley, green peppers, papaya and tofu are just some of the plant foods that are rich in PQQ. The mitochondrial biogenesis effect of PQQ is important to protect from reactive oxygen species and improve energy utilization, and promotion of healthy aging. We would like to hear about your own experience with this topic. Leave a comment. Lastly, remember that it is important to talk to your doctor or other professional before beginning any sort of supplementation or treatments.
