This is a series of presentations concerning many aspect of mitochondrial DNA given by Miguel Vilar, Paul Maier, and Roberta Estes on April 24, 2021 for the GFO/Portland ISOGG advanced DNA group. Dr. Paul Maier and Dr. Miguel Vilar are two of the leading experts on mitochondrial DNA. Paul is the population geneticist for Family Tree DNA and Miguel was formerly the lead scientist for the National Geographic Society’s Genographic Project. Their presentations give a broad overview about mitochondrial DNA from a human population genetics standpoint. Roberta Estes is a well known blogger and speaker about genetic genetic genealogy. Roberta Estes’ presentation starts 2 hours 3 minutes and 55 seconds into the video and she provides some case studies in which mitochondrial DNA data was used to solve genealogical problems. Roberta concludes with a presentation about the Million Mito Project which starts at 2 hours, 41 minutes and 14 seconds into the video.
