Mitochondrial Function: Parkinson's Disease vs. Healthy Controls

I remain convinced that Parkinsonism is a metabolic disorder with neurological consequences.

Here, we are able to demonstrate mitochondrial insufficiency (lower ATP and NAD+) in individuals with idiopathic PD than age-matched controls. It appears that energy production, on a cellular level, is compromised- not just in the brain, but in the leg and hand muscles, too.

Presented 15 Sept 2022 in Madrid, Spain at the International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders.
