Prof. Iain Chapple, Professor of Periodontology and Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, Director of Research for the Institute of Clinical Sciences, College of Medical and Dental Sciences, Birmingham University.

Prof. Chapple unpacks the current evidence for the links between poor oral health status and the development of systemic diseases. He explains modes of inflammation in the gums and how this is linked with chronic inflammation, disseminating infection and immunological memory in the body. He presents evidence of oxidative stress mechanisms in indirect causality of chronic kidney disease.
