Researchers from the Institute of Science and Technology Austria showed the exact structure of the so-called mitochondrial supercomplex CIII2CIV in mammalian cells. The mitochondrial supercomplex CIII2CIV works by pumping charged particles, protons, through the mitochondrial membrane, which is needed to start the energy conversion process in the cells.
