Diabetes has direct & indirect effects on the brain. It used to be thought that the brain had only glucose type 1 & 3 transporters (which are not insulin dependent). It’s now known, that hippocampal neurons also have glucose type 4 transporters (which ARE insulin dependent). This is another reason to avoid excess dietary fat.
