If someone had told her a year ago, or even six months ago, that she will one day happily stand in a lake covered in ice, she would probably have told them that they’d lost their mind. And yet, this morning, as she listened to the ducks chatting on the opposite shore and watched the mist drift like a curtain above the ice, she could hardly imagine anything more beautiful than standing in a frozen lake, feeling her legs slowly go numb.
It’s the exhilarating feeling you get from the cold water and from doing something so completely mad but it’s also the sensation of being somewhere bigger than yourself, somewhere not man-made.
