Dr. Eric Adler is a Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of the Heart Transplant Program at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Recently, his work has led to the development of a novel gene therapy for Danon disease, a rare cardiovascular disorder associated with severe hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The treatment is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 trial. In this talk, Dr. Adler tells the story of his journey investigating Danon disease and discusses the opportunity to develop gene-editing therapies able to treat inheritable cardiomyopathies in the years to come.
