  1. Going off the point a bit but i hope that on behalf of the kids, theres anti screen/smartphone worldwide revolution (parents!)where time on these things is majorly reduced and classroom bans placed on them (put them in cubbyholes or similar and collect at the end of class) The amount of parents ive heard complaining about their kids being on their phones too much (+ mahybwill have free access to adult content unless they have a decent parental ctrl app)…. And YET the very same parents bought them the damn things in the first place due to FOMO. Parents ..unlessbtheres a REAL neee for your kid to have a smartphone do not buy them! Stop!
IF YOU NEED YOUR KIDS TO BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOU AND VICE VERSA, REMEMBER THERE ARE BASIC PHONES! TEXTING AND CALLING STILL EXIST!!
Apologies for the rant but its a major issue as far as i can see, with many parents/kids. Take control! Be authoritative (not authoritarian) + of course, lead by example. Switch em off now and then.

  2. Correlation does not equal causation. I am aware of people in their 70s who are very likely autistic, but were of a time when the definition was narrows and limited to males with very specific behaviours. Autism being thought of as a "problem in our cells" also makes me feel uncomfortable

  3. i like to play doccumentary in background as a film or just audio, something boring or with good calming voice, set auto turn off timer on the audio/video device, and ure good to go

  4. Of course that in the past kids psychological problems were not recognized! Omg a person could hide so much or try to communicate and not be heard.
It was a time for obedience not understanding, so we canā€™t ignore that factā€¦ we know more today.
Is some information about diagnosing today and including parents in the old statistics? I would love to see this researchā€¦
Our environment make us worse of course and we canā€™t ignore the past and knowledge.

  5. That is not true, I know someone that is not obese and have a son that became autistic, by not having oxygen reach the brain for a length of time. Thank God he did not pass away.

  6. The word Autism or Autistic can't be find anywhere in Africa. I only find out about it in the UK. Kids being stubborn and throwing tantrums needs to be disciplined. In Africa, teachers are good at it, the cane will do the jobšŸ˜‚. You will learn the hard way and grow out of it without any medication. I think all these Autism etc are invented by the big pharma.

  7. Propaganda. Lies. Fake news. The same people that will tell you Keto and Carnivore are dangerous will tell you that autism comes from you being over weight. Right. Brought to you by…Pfizer.

  8. Iā€™ll tell you this: 1. There is such a thing as skinny fat. You can be thin and eating a horrible diet and your mitochondria is also horrible and affecting your health negatively and youā€™re passing that on.

    2. I have ADHD (recently diagnosed because prior to menopause I was able to mask it), my mother struggled with her weight throughout her life. My son has ADHD, and Iā€™ve also struggled with my weight since puberty.

    3. My cousin was seriously hyperactive when he was younger and my aunt went to a doctor who narrowed down the causes to what he was eating. She said by cutting out most of the processed foods in his diet they were able to avoid putting him on medication.

Yes, we are American and maybe thereā€™s other factors that cause obesity here rather than in places like the UK, but Iā€™ll tell you, youā€™re not exempt and look at the rate by which obesity is becoming a problem there. We have to get SMARTER about processed foods and quit them post haste.

Currently, Iā€™ve been exercising and eating a balanced diet of whole foods, cut out the junk almost completely and I finally feel like my mind is starting to unfog. Iā€™m 80lbs down from my heaviest recorded weight and Iā€™m still losing. Apart from the aches and pains of exercise, Iā€™ve never felt better in years.

Steven, Huelā€¦ re-thinking that sponsorship? I know, I know, itā€™s HEALTHY processed foodā€¦ but is it? šŸ¤” Not trying to stir up ish with your business but I think maybe looking for more of a whole food type thing thatā€™s quick and simple would be better, no?

And no I donā€™t belong to a company that does that. Iā€™m just a retired by menopause, fighting for a better life woman āœŒšŸ¼

  9. Itā€™s a big messy soup of bad (and often absent) parenting, too much sugar and screens, too little fat and outdoor time. Over diagnosis is def. happening and the default diagnosing is a problem in itself. As soon as you reach for a medical diagnosis, people quickly stop considering other reasons for deviant behaviours because they view the diagnosed as a victim of something uncontrollable. Diagnoses (especially ā€mental healthā€ ones) are best avoided unless absolutely necessary and it is a tell sign of our depraved society that we want to make everyone a victim.

  10. Had my son post covid, recently diagnosed with autism- i was considered obese while pregnant and had gestational diabetes. While i no longer am considered diabetic i do have insulin resistance. For me this is accurate.

  11. The rate of DIAGNOSING autism and autism awareness has quadrupled in 20 years. Not autism itself. Autism has been around for thousands of years and nobody can prove otherwise.

  12. How about consulting some actually autistic experts? Some of us have both the qualifications and the lived experience. Oh, and slender parents. In my opinion, the causation (if such there be) goes in the other direction. Most autists have co-occurring conditions which are more likely to lead to obesity such as ME, fibromyalgia, depression and – above all – poverty. And autism is highly heritable. So it's not obesity therefore autism but autism therefore greater likelihood of obesity, not because of autism itself but because of the circumstances. The golden equation: autism + environment = outcome.

  13. I know at least 8-9 families with child on the spectrum. Middle class, educated and definitely not overweight.
40 hour labour, badly managed C-section, suspected sepsis, unknown amount of antibiotics administered on the new born, faking data on documents, etc.
Then followed by the regular tripple doses of vaccine (that could have been spread, not given in one go..), lack of any form of paediatric checks and early intervention in development.. Here is one of the recepied for ASD.

I know parents of Down Syndrome whose kids have great outcomes – they have huge teams involved from day 1 and work on skills before development delay happens .
Which is not the care kids with autistic traits receive. Lack of ocupational therapy, gut health, etc early on and then inability to access play and social situations (through which neutotypical develop naturally), worsens the conditions fast. Totally avoidable.

  14. interesting links, but there could be many confounding variables. the linking could just be a wide net. really not clear what is happening.

  15. Iā€™m sorry, but this is complete nonsense, there was no mention of factor that ADHD and autism will have gone largely undiagnosed in the past. Itā€™s not an increase in ADHD and autism, itā€™s an increase in presentation and diagnosis – that is completely different. Now, could there be other factors as a cause, of course, but that would need to be a separate long term study, which it does not sound like he has done. Maybe the longer form addresses this, but this clip was poor.

  16. I am a personal trainer/health coach. at about 10% body fat call my wife is not obese or diabetic and never has been. We have three children. One is Nuro typical, one has ADHD, and one is autistic.

Call my wife does have ADHD, but no obesity or diabetes is present in either parent.

  17. 8:32 Oh? Do tell? Y'know? 30 years ago people were ignoring Autistic people. Laypeople didn't know what it was and neither did a lot (not all) of their doctors. In 2005, I asked a doctor about Autism and they handed me a print-out from WebMD. šŸ˜• The "horrible" thing that happened was more people are gettin' to know themselves and finding out (mostly via their children) that they're Autistic. If you're not Autistic or AuDHD I don't wanna hear from you how horrible I, or anyone else is bc of the way our brains have developed.

  18. 1. Mental health issues ā‰  neurodivergence
    2. ADHD & ASD ā‰  toddler tantrums
    3. This guy ā‰  scientific reasoning

Minimising the lived experience of late diagnosed people, promoting ableism and citing unrelated lifestyle factors ā‰  respect or understanding.

This video promotes hate and lies. It's blaming unrelated (in most cases) lifestyle factors for neurodiversity that has always existed yet has not been cared about or understood.

This kind of crap is Dickensian in its approach. All it needs is him saying 'send them off to workhouse' or 'we should give them something to have a tantrum about'. I'm surprised he didn't go further and use Nazi terms like "high functioning" which was used to justify who lives or dies.

This is a big no from me.

  19. I wonder how many of these you've shot, where you realised that what the guy is saying is complete bollox and could be harmful, then decided to pull the episode.

  20. He is talking shit my husband has adhd one of my sons adhd the other asd my brother's son is adhd my brother is adhd. They have proven the reasons there's more adhd and asd is because the dsm5 changed and more people and drs now know what too look for

  21. Gut biome research is proving interesting with regards to autism and ADHD. My daughter was falsely diagnosed ADHD but after taking wheat out and focusing on whole foods less grains, she was a lot better. Turns out she has a gluten sensitivity and 1 celiac gene. My husband has 2 celiac genes and same lifestyle change cured his GI issues. My daughter is a very studious organized young lady. She does have focus issues sometimes and some genetic variants that need support but she is not ADHD.

  22. Dude. Iā€™ve never been overweight, no one in my family had diabetes (even the few who are fat), my husband is super fit and our 10 yr old son had high functioning autism and dyspraxia.

  23. Sorry, not buying it,I gained12 pounds when I was pregnant with my grown up son,who has high functioning Autism&ADHD as soon as as I had my baby I lost all 12 pounds and fit back in my size10Jeans.
One of the reasons my son has these diagnoses,is because I have ADHD and my husband was high functioning Autistic.GENETICS!
I think what this highly qualified Professor is grasping at is some hypotheses, that may have some truthsā€¦A.we live in a very different society today. Many kids are in Daycares at age 13 months, diagnosis can be missed during development, parents often have two jobs, missed diagnosis,Schools classrooms are too big, missed behaviours.(Through no fault of their own, parents are pressured to work)Lotā€™s of divorce, today, stress,a huge criteria in kids with diagnosis.
Iā€™m not saying the foods,we consume and Obesity isnā€™t a problem however, we know more now about signs&symptoms about what we once took for ā€˜shynessā€™ā€™busy, wriggle bumsā€™ and ā€˜disruptive kids were considered ā€˜ badly behavedā€™ all of this criteria and loads more, all is now seen as Autism,ADHD,Dyslexia etc.in kids today!!
Perhaps? We may be over diagnosing kids? And that is another reason thereā€™s way more diagnosis than..before?
I incidentally was a confirmed ā€˜wrigglebumā€™ that stimmedā€™rolled her head from side to side a lot!!!
This is my understanding of itā€¦.šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

  24. Obesity, diabetes may contribute, but I see it running generationally through families. Others have also pointed out that the diagnosis has expanded from what it was in the 60s and 70s.

  25. Disappointing episode. You gave air time to a scaremongering, attention seeking quack.

    1) There is no rise in autism. There is a rise in autism diagnosis. Previously they only tested for autism if you were significantly disabled. The folk winning Noble prizes, Oscars or inconspicuous in the suburbs were not tested. More of these folk are being tested now.

    2) There is no evidence that obese parents are at higher risk of autism. Yes there is some evidence of a higher risk of obesity in people with autism but it it is inconsistent and inconclusive. None of the autistic people I know had obese parents. Many are plump though, but not all. Stressed folk put on weight. Autists tend to live with a lot of stress.

    3) You cant catch and cure autism if you notice signs of metabolic disorder. This is complete rubbish and put stress on parents. You can treat the metabolic disorder, not the autism.

    4) Autism is not a psychiatric condition. It is strongly associated with anxiety and depression. But it is a developmental variant.

There is connection between brain chemistry, development and tendency towards psychiatric disorders but
this simplistic metabolic disorder theory was an idea that was not supported by the facts.

This guy is an embarrassment to the schools who certified his education.

  26. I m not obesity nor diabetic and I have an autistic son. I didn't get an infection when I was pregnant. I eat healthy, exercise, and play sports all my life and during pregnancy. I don't drink, don't smoke. I am super healthy. My son got injured by vaccine, which caused him autistic. My son was a healthy and normal child until he got vaccine when he was 18 months old. It is not true. It's B.S.
