A role for mitochondria in NLRP3 inflammasome activation

[email protected] | A role for mitochondria in NLRP3 inflammasome activation | It is shown that mitochondria-generated reactive oxygen species, as well as inhibition of mitophagy/autophagy, leads to NLRP3 inflammasome activation. It is also shown that, in inflammasome stimulatory conditions, NLRP3 and ASC co-localize with mitochondria and mitochondria-associated ER membranes (MAMs). Finally, it is shown that inhibition of mitochondrial VDAC ion channels impaired NLRP3 inflammasome activation
