Dr. Christopher Perry, PhD on the nuances of assessing mitochondrial function

In this video, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Christopher Perry from York University. We discuss how mitochondrial function is measured in the lab, how different exercise intensities effect mitochondria, and most importantly how we all should be interpreting the research around “mitochondrial function” outcomes in the published literature.

Dr. Perry is a researcher and educator of movement disorders and the metabolic basis of muscle fitness. His research aims are translating mitochondrial bioenergetics and redox biology to health/disease. His team identifies novel metabolic pathways that contribute to muscle weakness and metabolic dysfunction in multiple disorders, and performs pre-clinical testing of therapeutic strategies (pharmacological, nutritional, exercise) that target metabolism and restore the capacity for movement.
